H&M Takes on a new initiative
The H&M Foundation launched a new global initiative to identify and support young role models. The retailer aims to
advocate and sell the stories of young changemakers around the world. Children are more knowledgeable, engaging,
and capable than ever seen before. They are filling up the empty spaces created by people we are usually looking at
adults to fill. This fundamental demand has inspired the company to explore how it could play a part.
H&M will bring forward, champions and tell the stories of young changemakers from around the world. The company
wants to support, improve and contribute to a better future for both children and parents.
H&M worked with Oscar nominee Brian Berkeley to make a short film that provokes the world to talk and rethink the
role models we have been looking up to. The purpose of this film is to illustrate how young people view adults today
while evoking the key ideas of leadership and the urgency of change.
The company wants to showcase the influence children make and use the revenue of a more sustainable new sustainable
clothing line inspired by the young role models, which is being developed by the H&M Kids design team. Later this
year, the brand will focus its efforts and raise awareness of how the wider community can participate in their work.
Despite being in a revenue-centric environment, H&M Group continues to value the community, the development of
sustainable living, and worldwide education for all children. They strive to protect children's rights and has partnered
with UNICEF since 2004 on programs to support children. The aim is to use thier scale to bring about systemic change
to the industry and across the value chain.
