Women Creative Directors of Luxury Brands

Fashion has mainly been a male-dominated industry. Men run showrooms, marketing, create floor plans for flagship locations, and creative design exclusive collections. Women deserve just as much recognition as their male peers. We’ve composed a list that features women's creative directors of luxury fashion brands.

Creative directors hold an important title in a brand. They bring the brand’s anesthetic to garments and accessories. Creative director positions are crucial in any fashion house. They essentially make the brand that everyone loves.

Sarah Burton: Alexander McQueen

After the untimely death of Alexander McQueen in 2010. Sarah Burton became the creative director of the brand. For men, women, and accessories. A year after taking her position in the company. She gained international accolades for designing Kate Middleton’s wedding dress. Burton’s work was rightfully acknowledged in 2011 when she won The Council of Fashion Designers International Award.

Miuccia Prada: Prada

Miuccia Prada is the granddaughter of Mario Prada the original founder and designer of Prada. Miuccia is known for creating the infamous black nylon backpack in 1985. As well as creating the extension of Prada. Miu Miu, a line inspired by her own personal wardrobe in 1992. A couple years later in 2004. The CFDA gave her the honor by receiving the International Award. In the following year, Time magazine named her 100 most influential people in the world. I couldn’t agree more. Miuccia Prada successfully reinvented Prada in a modern and stylish way.


Natacha Ramsay-Levi: Cholè

Natacha Ramsay-Levi has been in the fashion industry for years. Prior to taking the creative director role at Cholè in 2017. Ramsay-Levi worked for Louis Vuitton and Balenciaga. Recently, rumors surfaced that Cholè was interested in looking for a new creative director. Due to sales not meeting the brand’s expectations. However, Cholè released a statement stating the rumors were false.

Virginie Viard: Chanel

After the death of long time creative director Karl Lagerfeld. Virginie Viard became his new successor. Viard was the perfect person for this position. She has been with the company for years. She began as an intern in 1987 and worked with Lagerfield for over 30 years. Chanel fans can check her out her current 2020-2021 cruise collection. Chanel has been the only luxury brand
to make revenue during the pandemic. Viard is on top of the fashion world right now.

Silvia Venturini Fendi

Silvia Venturini Fendi is the only member of the Fendi family that is still involved with the brand. She currently holds the position of creative director of accessories, child wear, and menswear. This position was given to her after the death of Karl Lagerfeld. A Fendi fact that shocks most is that Karl Lagerfeld also worked for Fendi while holding his creative director role
at Chanel. He worked for Fendi for over 54 years!
