Q : So who is Omayma?
A : That’s me! I’ve been a celebrity makeup artist, working in the fashion, film and beauty industry for over a decade. My makeup artistry has been in magazines like Vogue, Marie Claire, NYLON, Harpers Bazaar, and so many more. I’ve had the pleasure of working with celebrity clients like Logic, Paris Jackson, Chloe Bennet, Jenna Elfman, and many more amazing people. I now love working in fashion and beauty, with brands like Marc Jacobs, Sunday Riley, Athleta, Puma, and so many other amazing companies.
Originally from London, I moved to LA about 6 years ago, and so far have been loving working in the industry here. I feel like the market here is still so young compared to London or New York, where things feel so much more fixed in their ways. To me, I feel this has meant I’ve had an easy transition and ability to grow quite rapidly in LA, which of course I’m very grateful for!
Q : What is the differentiating factor the Omayma Elixir offers?
A : Our Elixir harnesses the skin secrets from the Nomadic Bedouins of the Sahara and beyond, creating a formula that softens, protects and restores your skin giving a healthy, balanced glow. A : What was the inspiration behind building this skincare brand coming from a makeup artist background?
Q : Beautiful skin has been something I’ve been passionate about for a long time. I think as a makeup artist, one of the things that really gives me joy, is when I am able to bring out the confidence in someone. To me, having great skin is something that has always given me so much more confidence than great makeup, and so this was something I wanted to create for myself. After moving to Los Angeles, my skin totally changed, and I had to draw upon my heritage and everything I had learned about face oils in Egypt and Morocco (my father was Egyptian and my mother lived in Morocco for a lot of the time when I was in my teens, and so I’ve spent a lot of time in both places). My love for face oils and the ingredients I learned about in North Africa were really what saved my skin, and so it all made sense and sort of clicked, when I was able to bring my heritage and love for great skin together as one.
As an African-American Woman in America Omayma, unintentionally, is shrinking the opportunity gap and expanding the product choice range in the luxury/premium market for skincare.
