Hello to Good Buys
Pop-up shops have provided new and funky shopping experiences in the otherwise very-known
and sometimes boring shopping scene; both geographically and product-wise. A pop-up shop’s
charm springs from it being brick-and-mortar; complete with new and never before seen decor
and aesthetic to give shoppers a little taste of everything, and leave them wanting more of the
brand, even when the shop is gone. As online shopping and online shopping experiences
increase, a question presents itself: will pop-ups have a place? The short answer: yes. The
better answer: Good Buys. Good Buys is an online pop-up with a purpose; aiming to not only
sell a plethora of different styles and designers, but also help and contribute during the world’s
time of need.
The concept of Good Buys is not challenging: its goal is to raise as much money as possible for
the world’s two main pandemics: COVID-19, and anti-Blackness. And, instead of going through
a middle man or only donating some of the proceeds, all of the sales profit gained from Good
Buys will go directly to National Domestic Workers Alliance and The Movement for Black Lives.
According to its website, the National Domestic Workers Alliance “works for respect,
recognition, and inclusion in labor protections for domestic workers, the majority of whom are
immigrants and women of color.” And, according to The Movement for Black Lives’ website,
this organization was “ created as a space for Black organizations across the country to debate
and discuss the current political conditions, develop shared assessments of what political
interventions were necessary in order to achieve key policy, cultural and political wins, convene
organizational leadership in order to debate and co-create a shared movement wide strategy.”
Both of these organizations have been, and will continue to be instrumental in the anti-racist
movement taking place in the world today, and with the help of Good Buys, their work and
activism will become evident to a whole new audience.
Unlike many smaller, niche pop-ups that you may have seen in your local shopping district in
the city, Good Buys features brands of all different kinds and genres; providing something for
every buyer and donor to want and appreciate when shopping with Good Buys. From Gucci,
Miu Miu, Maryam Nassir Zadeh, and Phillip Lim, to Off White, Sandy Liang, Clare V., and Telfar,
a wide range of looks and brands have graciously decided to partner with Good Buys to create
funds for the greater good.
An online pop-up shop is quite revolutionary, but an online pop-up shop with the best designers
whose proceeds all go directly to fundamental organizations is nothing short of remarkable.
Stay tuned to read the post pop-up review following Good Buys’ launch in mid-July.
