Neiman Marcus Group aims to become fur-free by 2023

Neiman Marcus Group (NMG) has vowed to phase out animal fur goods across all of its brands by early 2023. The group is collaborating with luxury companies to build ‘ultra-luxury ideas that satisfy customer demand’ as well as shutter existing fur salons at its Neiman Marcus and Bergdorf Goodman locations and renovate them for ‘modern luxury experiences’. NMG has created an Animal Welfare Policy that adheres to the Fur Free Alliance’s requirements.

The Animal Welfare Policy applies to all of the company’s brands, including not only Neiman Marcus but Bergdorf Goodman, Neiman Marcus Last Call, and Horchow. The adjustment is in response to NMG’s recent statement that it has formed a dedicated team to identify, improve, and disclose performance on Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) concerns throughout its business. The company collaborated with the Humane Society of the United States to pledge to no longer use fur and developed an Animal Welfare Policy that is consistent with the Fur Free Alliance requirements.

The firm will cease purchasing the material by the end of this year(2021) and will no longer use it in production by the end of next year. In it’s updates its selection to include different sustainable and ethical luxury fashion categories. The Humane Society of the United States praised the new policy of the firm. Stating “We welcome this important policy from Neiman Marcus Group” , “The company’s fur-free pledge represents a transformational change in retail, and we applaud NMG for making progress on an issue that so many consumers care deeply about” .
