Timberland LaunchesGlobal Product Take-Back Program

Timberland is partnering with global innovation business ReCircled to establish a worldwide product take-back program, a recycling and upcycling initiative that will drive the retailer's circular design and development cycle. Customers may return any Timberland footwear, garment, or accessory to a Timberland shop for repair, recycling, or resale on a specialized re-commerce site.

The program is a significant step toward Timberland's aim of having a net positive influence on nature by 2030, which will be accomplished through reuse and the promotion of regenerative agricultural methods. Later this summer, the company will provide a digital, ship-from-home alternative. “This take-back program is a critical step in pursuing our 100% circularity goal, while at the same time addressing the evere-increasing consumer demand for responsible design and progressive retail options,” said Susie Mulder, Global Brand President for Timberland in a statement. Timberland will also launch goods designed exclusively for ReCircled. The Timberloop Trekker, a city hiking shoe with outsoles that can be removed at ReCircled facilities, will be available in spring 2022. Timberland has also undertaken the following sustainability initiatives:

- Sourcing leather from regenerative agricultural practices that give cattle grazing land a rest.

- Sourcing cotton from smallholder farmers using an agroforestry tree planting model that helps provide lasting

benefits to the environment and communities where it grows; and

- Making soles with 75% renewable materials, including sugar cane and natural rubber from trees.
