Kevan Hall
Taking place in New York City, Kevan Hall’s “Brushstrokes” collection for NYFW SS22 featured a plethora of organized and beautifully crafted garments!
The show opened with an elegant white dress that then was seamlessly was followed by a white two-piece pant and blazer jacket that really gave a spring time showcase bring anticipation for next spring! As the show went on, the clothes became bolder, and some models walked in sheer, cascading dresses that were very eye-catching. The most exciting part of the show was toward the end when models came out in sparkling dresses. These dresses beautifully glistened as the models made their way down the runway.
We at Volatile were lucky to have the opportunity to briefly speak with Kevan Hall, and he gave us some excellent insight regarding his inspiration and process for this show. “The inspiration is a French artist named Christian Bérard. He was 1930s... he painted for Vogue, and he painted for interior design and designed rugs, and it really is about his color sense and about the painting. So I kind of took the idea of the painterly concept of the “trompe l'oei,” which is the trick of the eye when you think you see something and it’s really not there, it’s just painted,” Hall said. “The process was a little tedious because we had to paint the drawings onto the pattern pieces, and then those pattern pieces had to be printed on special digital printing machines. We did some embroideries that also took a lot of time to develop. The woven fabrics that look like they were painted watercolors, those were specially woven, so those took months to make.”
A lot of time and effort went into this show, and the final product was incredible. From the elegant beginning pieces to the stunning ending garments, this collection was beautiful, and we look forward to seeing what is next for Kevan Hall.
